National Donate Life Month
Observed in April each year, National Donate Life Month helps raise awareness about donation, encourage Americans to register as organ, eye (cornea) and tissue donors and to honor those that have saved and healed lives through the gift of donation.
This April, we invite you to look up to the night sky and the billions of stars that make up the universe. Stars remind us that even in the darkest night, there is light. Your decision to be an organ, eye (cornea) and tissue donor gives hope and light to the individuals in need of a lifesaving or healing transplant. That’s why donors are superstars. “Not only do we live among the stars, the stars live within us.” Neil deGrasse Tyson

August - National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) stems from National Minority Donor Awareness Week, founded in 1996 by the National Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP), to bring heightened awareness to donation and transplantation in multicultural communities – focusing primarily on African American, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander and Native American communities.
We are collaborating with Donate Life Texas to host a unique contest in celebration of National Minority Donor Awareness Month. Dessert, like many types of food, has the power to foster community, connect people across cultures, and evoke memories. Click here for contest details.
We are also hosting and supporting NMDAM activities with hospital partners and allied organizations, including Walgreens. As a national Donate Life America partner, Walgreens has annually celebrated the observance across the U.S. We're expecting to have Donate Life – Gift of Sight donor registry tabling events at 8 stores during the weeks of August 13-26, in the city of San Antonio and in the Rio Grande Valley area. Contact us if you would like more details about the events.
April is National Donate Life Month. Join us in this special observance dedicated to celebrating eye, organ and tissue donation throughout the month in collaboration with partners, supporters, donor families, and transplant recipients.
Donate Life America announced that the theme of 2023 National Donate Life Month was inspired by the natural world of a pond coming to life in the spring. Frogs (and toads!) are a sign of healing and renewal, and water lilies represent hope. The lily pads we see on the surface of a pond are part of a much larger plant rooted below the water. The water lily plant reminds us of the support and collaboration needed for hope to bloom.
